Description
A fast moving, vibrant biography of an outstanding U.S. Communist activist for workers rights, civil rights, peace, and justice. Elaine Black Yondea joined the International Labor Defense in 1930. Shortly thereafter, she started working for the ILD and joined the Communist Party. Known as the “Red Angel,” Yoneda was the only woman on the steering committee of the 1934 San Francisco General Strike. In 1939, she ran for San Francisco Board of Supervisor on a platform of free day care, low cost housing, and civil rights. These and many other stories are recounted in The Red Angel.
