  1. Paul Buhle

If David Laibman had done no more than bring the distinguished journal “Science & Society” safe and sound into the twenty-first century he would have earned our deepest admiration. But as the collected essays “Passion and Patience” reveal, he is a deep and subtle Marxist thinker with a wide ranging perspective on the world we live in, the value of knowledge, (economic knowledge above all else), and the hopes we carry into what seems to be a dark and dangerous era. Bravo for Laibman and welcome reader to this important book

This book handles a wide range of issues and topics with insight and subtlety. Economic analysis of the USSR is worthy of careful and critical study.
