Description
This collection of poetry, was written on top of an 80-foot bluff above the Upper Potomac River at the edge of a magical Appalachian village called Shepherdstown. Stewart Acuff lived there for four years writing a poem every morning.
Collected here as Love Is Solidarity In Action are his morning songs and prayers reflecting his mind and spirit and connection to the wild world. They reflect his lifelong yearning for justice, compassion, peace, and holy and human love. He believes in the whole of his soul that Love Is Solidarity in Action.
Acuff started his organizing career at ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now!). For years he was one of America’s most successful union organizers at the Service Employees International Union, as president of the Atlanta AFL-CIO, and as National Organizing Director of the National AFL-CIO. He’s a proud Southern / country anti-racist, close to the ground environmentalist, and trade unionist. In retirement, he writes poetry to express his spirituality and creativity.
